Posted - 27/11/2025 ASSA's objective has been modified to elaborate on just what our "senior snooker" is about...
(a) to promote and organise snooker tournaments and championships for Senior Age players to provide the incentive to keep playing and practicing for a sport in which they may no longer be competitive with younger generations.
(b) that by providing the incentive to continue practice, that Senior Age players may maintain the health of mind and body that comes from the exercise and discipline.
We felt the need for the elaboration due to the confusion over the meaning of "senior snooker" when some are passing off events open to 40 year olds as a "senior" event.
No other sport in the world considers 40 to be anywhere near "senior age".
As for the WPBSA and ABSC now calling what used to be known as the "Masters" as "Senior Snooker", lets not forget that at 40, players are at their peak and are likely to remain in their top ranks for another decade. Those associations are most welcome to do whatever they need to sell tickets, but take a moment to consider what it will be like when those players try to compete in 20-30 years time.
We operate as an individual association, independent of all other bodies, to manage senior age snooker events because such events need to be properly managed by senior aged people. |
